POLICE UNIFORM Vs. BRUTALITY

Just may be the colour of their uniform is having a negative influence on their conduct.Recently on my way back home one evening,i saw a policeboy beat up a bikeman for riding his bike after 7pm and resisting arrest.I walked up to the policeboy and had a word with him but he refused to stop hitting the bikeman and so i walked away and headed home,Reaching home,i immediately went to chapter IV of the constitution of the federal republic,section 34-right to dignity of human person,sub-section 1,every individual is entitled to respect for the dignity of his person,and accordingly
1a. no person shall be subject to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment.So i was sure that the policeboy had no right to hit the bikeman,the bikeman can be detained and charged to court within 24 hours since there is a competent court of law within 40km from wimpey junction,port harcourt.Also recently two mopol men attached to FCMB plc,ikwerre road,had a fight with another mopol man for parking his bike in front of the bank to discuss with someone,they eventually broke his neck openly on the road(to serve and protect with integrity??).The reform needed in the police force has to do more with character recruitment and not a change of uniform.While i welcome the new uniform of sky blue on black trousers,i also demand that a character as well as welfare check be carried out on all serving police men.They've to stop being a threat to the citizenry whom they are suppose to protect and serve with integrity !!!

PICCADILLY

There are lots of speculations about the whereabout of ex-gov of rivers state,peter odili(piccadilly).some say he's still in the govt. house,some say he is in abuja,some say he is in london,some say south africa,some say ghana,some say birabi str.,others simply say he has gone underground.What ever the case,i learnt that he has been refunding some of the treasury he looted from the state during his tenure as gov.The EFCC has admitted he is a clever fellow but he can't outsmart them,he missed the presidency,the vice presidency,senatorial,ministerial and even ambassordorial bids.What other clever move has he got left,time will tell but just as the photo depicts,is he possibly on the run??

EFCC AND EX-GOVERNORS

Sitting on my news desk this tuesday morning,I wonder why people do wrong without realising that someday they may have to face the consequences.While the ex-govs. were in office and looting the treasury,Seriously enriching themselves with public funds and leaving the citizenry weeping and wailing,They forgot to hold the thought that someday reckoning may knock on their doors ! Before may 29th there was great anxiety of what would become of the ex-govs. after they leave office.The EFCC had created the awareness that nothing(except investigating) could be done to the govs. while they still enjoy immunity,t'was as a result of this alot of 9jarians were dissappointed with the EFCC for not carrying out any action after the govs. left office,EFCC's reason was that,they want to use a civil approach to prosecute the ex- govs.That was when i asked myself,is it now from immunity to civility?
the civility approach gave a bit of hope to some ex-govs. who then chose to boast that nothing can be done to them,i heared a few even went ahead on moves to remove Ribadu as the commission's chairman.
Well while the commission has so far arrested four ex-govs(the 5th,taraba ex-gov. is unconfirmed),I don't want to believe that it is being selective in the arrest and prosecution proces.The four so far,Orji Kalu(abia),Saminu Turaki(jigawa),Joshua Dariye(plateau) and Chimaroke Nnamani(enugu) is a good start,but the EFCC should ensure that all corrupt ex-govs. (even piccadilly) be prosecuted.

My fellow 9jarians,now that we know the importance of education,eventhough our standard of education is being undermined,we acknowledge the great role education plays in a developing nation like our 9ja.but what about affirmative action?what makes a country survive and thrive?why are some nations tough enough to win over their tough times?These questions have never before been as important as they are today because we are going through one of the toughest times that our country has ever faced.we cannot merely talk about strategies for developmental success.we have to get down to hardcore principles that will work.and the only principles that we can believe in are principles that are tested,tried and proven.mind you, my brodas strikes aren’t one of such ptinciples

The general elections and handing over from one civilian president to another has peacefully come and gone.which goes to say that “our” democracy has come to stay for good,but what is delaying “our” journey to the end of the dark tunnel is that most our public office holders never want to step aside for others to take the positions(for fresh ideas to be introduced).The deputy wants to become become the boss,the speaker/chief legislator wants to become the deputy,the minister wants to be governor,the ex-head of state wants to become president,special adviser wants to become SSG and so on……..
Dear 9jerians I certainly know that there is not a thing wrong with being ambitious but what this nation needs are true leaders interested in building the nation and not office holders who are just interested in building their political profiles.
It was said years ago that “the wise who refuse to rule will continue to suffer the rule of idiots”.
I appeal to credible Nigerians to overcome “the fear of the known abi unknown” and also strife to occupy public service positions must be held by servant leaders or like the wedding priest would say “forever hold your peace” !
